Maaii Deploys Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The Net-Net Session Director (SD) from Acme Packet (News - Alert) connects devices to IMS-based services and applications including voice, messaging, interactive video, gaming, streaming video and IPTV. Acme Packet session border controllers (SBCs) connect all access networks — LTE (News - Alert), 3G, fixed broadband and Internet — to the IMS network in the System Architecture Evolution (SAE) or Evolved Packet Core (EPC). As part of the access SBC, it provides seamless call continuity and call handover between LTE and circuit mobile networks.

Recently, Maaii Limited, an integrated communications application service provider based in Hong Kong, installed Acme Packet's Net-Net Session Director session border controllers (SBCs) to support its global over-the-top (OTT) communications service.

On its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based OTT network, Maaii chose Acme Packet's Net-Net Session Director for both its access and interconnect network borders. The complete project will include more than 100 SBCs all over the world. The Net-Net Session Director can take Maaii's OTT service to anywhere on any devices rapidly with the help of the Internet.

By safeguarding against system overloads and malicious attacks as well as by encrypting signaling and media streams, the solution's extensive security benefits eliminates risks, protects user confidentiality, and provides high service availability, the company stated in a press release.

“Our SBCs accelerate Maaii's service deployment, enabling them to quickly address the massive market of Android (News - Alert) and iOS users around the world," said Tim Ziemer, vice president of North America and Asia Pacific Japan sales, Acme Packet. "Maaii is extremely attractive to the 66 million Chinese citizens who travel abroad every year, and seek a more affordable way to call back home.”

Recently, IPC (News - Alert) Systems partnered with Acme Packet to expand its Unigy platform across the enterprise. The company is planning is introduce a super-compatible, platform-agnostic client allowing users to select Unigy, regardless of which OS or device they might be using. Making the cross-platform compatibility possible, Acme’s role will be to revamp IPC’s SIP-based Unified Trading Communications platform, the company stated.
