TMCnet's VoIP Routers Week in Review

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Lots of news in the VoIP routers world this past week, here are some of the top stories.

Patton (News - Alert) Electronics has shown off a high-density, carrier-grade VoIP media gateway at ITEXPO East 2012. Known as the SmartNode 10200 VoIP, it is part of a media gateway family of products for carriers and large businesses.

With this new version, Patton’s SmartNode portfolio extends beyond the previous call range of two-to-120, the company says. The new version supports up to 2048 voice or fax calls.

“Our SmartNode 10200 is the industry’s most reliable — and cost-effective — solution,” Burton A. Patton, executive vice president of Patton Electronics, said in a statement upon the product’s unveiling at ITEXPO in Miami.

The new version has inter-protocol transcoding, and offers T1/E1, DS3 or STM-1/OC3 trunks with SS7 signaling, the company said. It was described as “a high-capacity solution for 512-to-2048 SIP/H.248 VoIP or T.30/T.38 fax calls in a 2U form factor,” the company adds.

TMC also had the news that Speedflow Communications announced that it has released version 2.12 of CallMax Softswitch, a proprietary Linux-based Class 5 Softswitch with integrated billing.

Speedflow, specializing in the development of optimized VoIP Softswitch solutions, revealed that it has introduced several modifications in its CallMax Softswitch solution version 2.12. The core modifications include flexible multilingual IVR for Calling Cards which can give verbal announcements of balance state and number of minutes left.

The other features include VoIP Call back and support for all Gateway (News - Alert) types and DID providers. Besides the above, the company also announced many Web-interface modifications such as a completely new user-friendly Web site to support requirements of owners, resellers and end users.

It also features flexible subordination tree for reseller and users, flexible Gateway and DID management and PayPal (News - Alert) integration, said officials.

And Voice Carrier, a telephony technology company, has successfully completed the acquisition of PBillX Inc., provider of the P$X Asterisk (News - Alert)-based VoIP PBX system for the hospitality industry.

Officials said that with this acquisition, Voice Carrier will integrate the P$X software with its VoIP PBX systems and service.  The inclusion of P$X software in its hospitality portfolio, will now allow Voice Carrier (News - Alert) to deliver a hybrid, cloud-based, on-premise PBX with integration to the hotel's existing PMS.

Voice Carrier, with the combination of P$X software and its VoIP service plans, will also to provide hotels with cost and operational savings over conventional PBXes, officials said. The hotels, with the help of the new Voice Carrier hospitality solution product line, will be able to continue to use the current in-room analog phones and phone system infrastructure.
