TMCnet's VoIP Routers Week in Review
There’s always news with VoIP routers, this week TMC reported that phone supplier VTech will use the power of Dialog Semiconductor's (News VTech's soon-to-be-released S-series of single and dual-line phone systems will be powered by Dialog's SC14452 and SC14461 VoIP processors along with its Rhea software suite. VTech began production on the VoIP phones during Q4 of 2011 and will look to market them to hotel franchises in the coming year. The Dialog SC14452 provides built-in DECT (News - Alert) support for improved call clarity and is equipped with a 16-bit CompactRISC processor and two user-programmable Gen2DSPs, resulting in 240MIPS of computational power. Other audio quality enablers include a 32KHz wideband audio codec, a Class D amplifier and a Perfect Acoustic Echo Canceller. TMC also noted that Metaswitch Network Technologies has completed interoperability tests on its PCE solutions at the MPLS & Ethernet interoperability event during the MPLS & Ethernet World Congress. Path Computation Element (PCE) is a standard from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and allows for migration of the path computation function “from the network to the cloud, a standalone server or a network management system,” according to a company statement carried on TMCnet. “PCE provides network operators with an evolutionary path to Software Defined Networking (SDN). This is the preferred solution for carriers with massive installed base of equipment and legacy services as it provides a non-disruptive, gradual migration to SDN,” said Clive Partridge, general manager of Metaswitch's Network Technologies. And TMC (News - Alert) had the news that Telappliant, a provider of Internet telephony for U.K.-based small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), has rolled out its latest VoIP system to support 2.5 million people. Officials with Telappliant said that AngloINFO, one of the largest networks of websites in the world for English speakers based away from the U.K., used the company's expertise and access to state-of-the-art solutions to boost its telecommunications infrastructure. By using VoIP, AngloINFO hopes to reduce international call waiting time, as well as a decrease costs – with both factors due to fall by about 50 percent. Henry Ayres, head of technology at AngloINFO, said his firm's previous set-up had been time-consuming to run and required plenty of resources. David Sims is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
