Asian Cloud Provider to Form Large-Scale Cloud Solution with Supermicro Servers and Mellanox's VPI Solution

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

An Asian cloud provider will be deploying Supermicro servers and Mellanox’s (News - Alert) Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) solution to develop one of the largest cloud solutions in the world.

Mellanox’s interconnect solutions enhance data center efficiency by increasing throughput and reducing latency. The company’s 40GbE NICs and switches, and FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapter and switches have been designed to provide connectivity to the 5,000-node based cloud. The company’s solutions ensure enhanced performance, and flexibility, without the associated complexities.

In a release, Marc Sultzbaugh, vice president of Worldwide Sales at Mellanox Technologies said that, “The new cloud cluster will provide computing capacity and storage on-demand, and will set the stage for the next generation cloud infrastructure based on Mellanox Virtual Protocol Interconnect technology. The cloud cluster will utilize Mellanox’s 40GbE and FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and switches, providing an optimal solution to accelerate a large-scale, multi-tenancy environment.”

Super Micro Computer is a pioneering advocate of green computing and provides support for Enterprise IT, and Embedded Systems, as well as Data Center, HPC, and Cloud Computing systems across the globe via its extensive portfolio of advanced server Building Block Solutions.

Tau Leng, general manager of High Performance Computing at Super Micro Computer, Inc. said that, “Supermicro’s high performance, energy efficient server, and storage platforms enable rapid, scalable, and cost-effective deployment of Cloud Computing and HPC environments. Our longstanding relationship with Mellanox provides performance and time-to-market advantages with 40GbE, FDR 56Gb/s and future Ethernet and InfiniBand interconnectivity integrated into our solutions. Together we accelerate and simplify the growth and expansion of Cloud-based solutions for customers worldwide.”

In other news, Mellanox Technologies recently announced its SX1016 10GbE switch solution and ConnectX-3 10GbE adapters have been selected by Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network, a consortium of Canadian academic institutions focused on enabling world-class academic research.
