Patton Rolls Out Transportable, Wireless-WAN VoIP Routers for Mobile Businesses
By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing
Patton (News - Alert) Electronics has unveiled a new transportable wireless-WAN Internet router called BODi rS, which allows moving businesses, including busses, trucks, vans, cars and even sea vessels, to more efficiently use WAN services while in motion. With Patton’s new mobile hotspot router, mobile enterprises can use WAN services that provide customers with local WiFi (News - Alert) access and broadband Internet on the go, according to Burton A. Patton, executive vice president of Patton.
“With the BODi product line, Patton brings a unique mobile broadband experience to market,” Patton said in a company statement. “These powerful devices combine several wireless and fully-mobile broadband modems in a single mobile-router platform, then add a mobile WiFi hotspot and mobile WiFi WAN – all in a fully integrated system.”
According to Patton, the company’s BD004 VoIP routers provide a local wireless-mesh access point combined with mobile 3G/4G wireless-WAN connectivity based on multi-network bonding and roaming. Patton said the Gaithersburg, Md.-based firm has already begun taking orders for the mobile/portable BD004 3G/4G multi-network bonding router.
Patton’s BODi rS technology aggregates up to seven 3G/4G/LTE (News - Alert), VSAT/WiFi and WiMAX links into a unified WAN connection, company officials explained. For vehicle-based businesses, the BD004 provides a portable mobile-WAN product that allows for broadband Internet access with transparent multi-network roaming that spans all available carriers.
By using the one-box BODi product to offer local WiFi mesh service, ocean liners, luxury coaches – essentially any mobile business – can be protected by secure-encrypted firewall while ensuring Internet connectivity through multi-WAN routing with transparent bandwidth-on-demand.
By bonding up to seven fixed/mobile links, the BODi product line offers mobile, transportable, on-demand bandwidth aggregation for mobile enterprises of all sizes, company officials said.
Seagoing vessels can use Patton’s BODi rS technology in order to power 3G/4G/WiFi WAN services in harbor, then transparently handoff to VSAT WAN service while at sea, delivering seamless, survivable wireless WAN-access to passengers. The BODi rS BD004 combines built-in dual WiFi access point (WAP) with a 4-port Ethernet switch, plus four USB connections and two fast Ethernet ports for WAN access
In related news, Patton was recently tasked with modernizing an offshore oil rig to connect to an all-IP transport network, TMCnet reported. The local Ethernet interface was needed as a connection in order to support voice communications, data communications and device communications.
To provide the right solution, Patton designed a solution that included multi-port analog VoIP gateway routers, Ethernet extension devices, managed multiport RS-232 Async.-Over-IP Statistical Multiplexers and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switches. All functions were provided by Patton as one integrated solution housed in an environmentally hardened cabinet. At the same time, any of the included solutions could be provided alone, customized according to the needs of the oil rig and housed separately onsite.
To meet the needs in this specific vertical, Patton developed a brand of rugged, environmentally hardened communications equipment known as EnviroNET. Included in this product suite are Ethernet extenders, WAN routers, DSL modems, VoIP gateways and device servers all designed to perform in conditions that are less than ideal.
