Teradici Announces Unified Communications Capabilities for PCoIP Zero Clients
By Mandira Srivastava, TMCnet Contributor
Tera2 PCoIP zero clients can now enjoy softphone support for both incoming and outgoing voice calls. Teradici, the developer of the innovative PC-over-IP protocol that enables a true PC experience for desktop virtualization, has partnered with industry leading UC vendors to deliver its upcoming unified communications (UC) VoIP support for Tera2 PCoIP zero clients. With rapid implementation of UC in the VDI space, Teradici has become the first company to align with market demands by combining the benefits of UC with zero clients.
“Teradici is moving the desktop virtualization market forward by enabling UC functionality, including virtualized voice, on PCoIP zero clients,” said Stephen Beamish, VP, business development at Mitel (News - Alert). “Customers in VDI environments can now combine the productivity and collaboration benefits of UC with the simplicity of stateless clients.”
According to a press release, by routing data directly between callers, Teradici has addressed the “hair-pinning” effect of indirect call-routing with zero clients. With this solution, PCoIP zero clients can now deliver a scalable, high-performance system for UC in a VDI environment. Teradici has partnered with UC vendors to enable integration of Tera2 zero client point-to-point calling support into softphone products.
“We decided to deploy PCoIP zero clients in our VDI environment because they are quick to install, easy to manage and deliver the performance that our users require,” said Tom Ruane, IT manager at Churchill Corporate Services. “We are encouraged that Teradici will be adding UC support to PCoIP zero clients as this will allow us to leverage the organizational benefits of UC with all the advantages that our zero client endpoints provide.”
“As with VDI, unified communications presents further opportunity for organizational gains in productivity, operational cost savings and user accessibility,” said Trent Punnett, vice president of marketing at Teradici. “Enabling Tera2 PCoIP zero clients with voice UC ensures that Teradici customers and partners will be able to leverage cutting edge communications solutions, while also deploying the highest performing, most secure and easily manageable VDI client available.”
