Exact Ventures Reports 40 Percent Year-Over-Year Growth in IMS Infrastructure Market in Q2 2012

By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor

In the recently released NGN Voice and IMS Core Quarterly Report, Exact Ventures pointed out that the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) Core market maintained its variable growth momentum, with a slower growth rate in the first quarter and a substantially higher growth rate in the second quarter of this year.

According to the report, the market grew nearly 40 percent over this period and compared to same quarter last year, the growth is quite substantial.

The report attributed this second quarter growth of IMS market to the Wireline deployments in China. As these deployments were not strong enough during the first quarter of the year, the growth rate remained slower during this period.

During the first quarter of the year, the growth of IMS market was mainly driven by the strong voice-over-LTE (News - Alert) (VoLTE) deployments in North America, the report pointed out.

Based on the strength of its domestic sales, Huawei led the IMS Core market in the second quarter, followed by Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens, Ericsson, and Mavenir, respectively.

According to the report, the total NGN voice and IMS Core market grew only slightly quarter-over-quarter as seasonal strength in the wireless voice core market was barely able to offset sequential weakness in the legacy wireline NGN and IMS Core markets.

The service provider session border controller (SP-SBC) market has not been immune to weakness in wireline spending, as it was essentially flat both sequentially and year-over-year, the report further observed.

“The total SBC market continues to be boosted by the enterprise SBC category (E-SBC), which continues to be fueled by strong adoption of hosted unified communications and SIP trunking services. The E-SBC market was up nearly 20 percent year-over-year in 2Q12,” founder and principal Analyst at Exact Ventures Greg Collins said in a statement.

In other report, released few months back, Exact Ventures found the overall wireless packet core market, including evolved packet core (EPC), grew 24 percent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter last year
