TMCnet VoIP Routers Week in Review

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

The VoIP routers sector was slower than most this past week, but there were still a couple of stories of note, namely a partnership between Patton (News - Alert) Electronics and Data Connect Enterprises and Sangoma's introduction of its new line of products at ITEXPO Miami 2013.

Patton Electronics and Data Connect Enterprises collaborated on the new BODi rS line of Bandwidth-On-Demand Internet bonding routers. BODi rS routers are mobile and offer secure, consistent enhanced bandwidth and backup from anywhere. As such, they are appropriate for a number of scenarios, including automation and controls systems, energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, advanced metering, T&D system operation and reliability, power delivery, and water utility.

"Slow connections or loss of connectivity can seriously impact the profit-loss equation for any industry. BODi rS offers a cost-effective solution for avoiding downtime and lost productivity… lost profits in other words," said Barry Patton, president of Data Connect Enterprises. "We see this partnership as a great opportunity to bring real value to a rapidly-growing market.

While attending ITEXPO (News - Alert) Miami 2013 this week, Sangoma Technologies Corporation announced the general availability of the Vega Enterprise SBC Series and NetBorder Carrier SBC products. Designed with scalability in mind, this line of SBC solution includes standalone devices and solutions for implementation in virtual machine (VM) environments.

Specific models introduced include: the Vega Enterprise SBC, a rack-mountable 1u appliance that can scale to provide 25 to 500 SIP sessions; the Vega Enterprise SBC VM'Software, a fully compiled software application suitable for standard VM environments; and the Vega Enterprise SBC VM/Hybrid, a unique platform that includes scalable session capacity upwards of 4,000 sessions and routes all media connections through an external hardware-based transcoding resource.

The NetBorder Carrier SBC, meanwhile, is meant to address the operational needs of wide area carriers, including traditional ISPs, in addition to SIP trunking and cloud service providers.

That wraps up this week in review. Be sure to check out the VoIP Routers Channel for more news in this sector.
