TMCnet VoIP Routers Week in Review

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Welcome to this week in review, bringing you some of the highlights from the past week in the VoIP routers sectors as reported on by TMCnet.

First up, ThreatSTOP extended its partnership with Juniper Networks (News - Alert), which will now see ThreatSTOP support the Juniper MX series of routers. This will allow companies to update Juniper MX and SRX service gateways with active known criminal IP addresses.

“Enhancing our support to include the Juniper MX routers greatly increases ThreatSTOP’s ability to address the growing needs around Cloud security,” said Tom Brynes, founder and CEO of ThreatSTOP. “The future is cloud computing and ThreatSTOP is at the leading edge in proving a rock solid network security solution for cloud service providers.”

Next, Dell'Oro Group released its industry forecast for the service provider router market, which it expects to slow over the next four years. This will continue the market's declining growth that began in 2011.

Previously, the service provider router market experienced 20 percent annual growth as network operators looked to support Internet traffic growth. But these operators are beginning to take advantage of new products and network architectures instead.

In other news, Flowroute moved its business to Seattle from Los Angeles after experiencing impressive growth in recent years. The company provides carrier-grade platforms capable of handling thousands of calls every second with ease, while providing the lowest possible audio latency.

“Besides the obviously favorable business conditions created by local government, we were attracted to Seattle's tech-heavy ecosystem," said Flowroute CEO Bayan Towfiq. "It's the kind of environment that breeds the experience we're looking for as we grow our development and support teams. Beyond business reasons, we all really like Seattle."

Telco Depot this week launched a free phone-based telecom advisory service which aims to help companies understand and manage their business communications better. It can also help companies reduce operating expenses, maximize benefits and make better use of available resources.

Specifically, the service puts companies in contact with experts in the telecom field in order to help those companies avoid solutions not best suited to their needs. The service serves as an extension of Telco Depot's longstanding goal to help customer make informed decisions when buying telephone equipment.

Lastly, detailed the ways which customers can reduce their communications expenses by switching to VoIP. To start with, the VoIP provider pointed out that low rates are common as VoIP relies on simpler infrastructure than tradition phones lines or even mobile phones.

Another money saver of VoIP is the fact that long distance calls are less expensive for both residential and business customers. Meanwhile, businesses can benefit from unlimited extensions and customized office plans by using a hosted PBX (News - Alert) or SIP trunking solution.

That wraps up this week in review. Be sure to check out the VoIP Routers Channel for more news in this sector.
