VoIP Routers Week in Review
By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer
Another big week has come and gone in VoIP router news, and there are plenty of stories to reflect on. Let's settle in now and take a look at some of the highlights of the week with our standard weekend fixture, our Week in Review coverage.
First came news from S3 Group, a Mixed-Signal IP supplier that offers up a variety of services – analog, RF, power management and professional-tier system-on-chip among them – for OEMs, system vendors and semiconductor firms. The company launched a new line of 10 different Mixed-Signal IP cores, developed and proven across 2012. The new cores have a variety of uses, including in DVB-C2/S2 demodulators, wireless and wireline communications, system power management ICs, and in both LTE (News - Alert) and satellite transceivers.
Next, MyVoIPProvider.com brought in a new way to buy the hardware necessary to power the VoIP experience. The site took an important step for new buyers, and especially for new residential buyers who may not know just what they need or what hardware is best for each particular set of needs. MyVoIPProvider.com offers a rundown of the six best residential VoIP providers that either sell hardware or offer free hardware to help users make the decision about which direction to go.
This makes the overall decision involved in bringing VoIP into the home or office much easier by showing just what users will need.
Boaters looking for an improved way to keep in touch while on the water should get a lot out of the next news item, as U.K. firm Buzz Marine brought out an improvement to its HubbaX line of mobile communications systems in the form of an intelligent switchbox. Adding the intelligent switchbox system allows the HubbaX to switch from VSAT to Wi-Fi as available, with an operating radius of several miles at download speeds up to seven Mbps. This makes it a valuable item for anyone spending large amounts of time on a boat.
Finally, there was good news to be had from an Infonetics Research report, which pinned down an improvement in Carrier VoIP and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) equipment sales in the fourth quarter of 2012. This improvement was actually predicted to take place, and did thanks in large part to improved sales in the IMS market. Given that the market had been in decline for three years preceding the rise in sales, the boost no doubt proved welcome news for those in the market.
That was the week that was in VoIP routers, and a week that was awash with exciting new developments and new products from some of the biggest names in the field. Our global online community is constantly in the hunt to bring more news back, so be sure to join us back here next week for plenty more exciting news, and of course, every weekend for our Week in Review coverage!
