Paltalk Releases Updated Version of Firetalk VoIP Application

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Paltalk (News - Alert), an online video communications company, unveiled the new version of Firetalk, its VoIP application. This program is capable of delivering long-distance dialing services via local access numbers at highly affordable rates.

Jason Katz, founder and CEO at Paltalk said, “With the release of the updated Firetalk app, consumers are now able to make international calls without having to worry about incurring additional data charges and they can make calls in areas with low or poor data service. This is a significant win for the consumer.”

Firetalk will serve as a free voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) application that connects Firetalk consumers across the globe, allowing them to talk to each other for free. Firetalk also enables calling to other landlines and cell phones at prices lower than those offered by Skype, Google (News - Alert) Voice and other VoIP calling providers.

Previously, carriers in the United States offered consumers unlimited data plans and limited minutes. Now, they’ve changed to offering unlimited minutes and tiered data plans. VoIP applications like Firetalk leverage data to connect calls, making VoIP calling impossible for consumers who have limited data plans.

Firetalk has tried to overcome this hurdle by introducing Local Access Number Dialing in the solution. This lets users dial U.S.-based phone numbers to connect to any international destination, said officials.

The process is seamless, simply requiring the user to dial an international phone number to place a local call over the user’s GSM carrier to a U.S. phone number. The call then gets routed to the international number dialed by the subscriber.

Other advantages of the new Firetalk Local Access Number Dialing application include a reduction in the use of the subscriber’s cellular data plan, and the use of traditional minute plans. These features especially allow consumers to make inexpensive international calls in case they have low or poor data connections.

In December 2012, Paltalk released the latest version of its free VoIP and text app, Firetalk for Android. Firetalk, Paltalk’s free VoIP and text app, eliminates the need to pay for any mobile and long-distance calls or texts on Android (News - Alert) phones.

Now, anyone using this app can enjoy free calls to any other Firetalk user worldwide, and make low-cost calls to any landline or cell phone in the world.
