VoIP Routers Week in Review
By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor
With the transition to IP-based communications gaining momentum, VoIP services were on the rise this week, particularly in the VoIP routers space. New platforms were introduced, while some others addressed surveillance and monitoring challenges.
In fact, with the growing popularity of VoIP, monitoring VoIP communications has been a major challenge for law enforcement agencies across the world. However, technological advancements have helped VoIP providers overcome most of these challenges. Voip-Pal.com unveiled such technology. Called Lawful Intercept Technology, it is designed to solve major challenges associated with the current U.S. Government’s NSA surveillance program, says the report. The technology was developed by Voip-Pal's wholly owned subsidiary Digifonica, and is designed to monitor VoIP calls right on the VoIP provider's equipment, independent of access methods.
Satellite tracking and communication solutions provider Blue Sky Network is adding new map overlay enhancements to NewSkyRouter, a cloud-based fleet management solution. The report indicates that offering different map overlays is helping the managers get more information about the location. Each additional overlay provides new sets of data points. As per this report, the new overlays for NewSkyRouter include third-party weather feeds and localized traffic from Bing Maps.
In other news, Packet One Networks (News - Alert) selected PortaOne’s PortaBilling Oracularius, a billing and customer management software product. It will enable Packet One Networks to help Malaysia's legacy Time–Division Multiplexing (TDM) infrastructure to smoothly transition to the next generation IP voice services.
Similarly, the telecom sector in Africa continues to see promising new trends. The U.K.’s Squire Technologies is seeing more use of the short message service (SMS) pass-through via its media gateways. Specifically, Africa is interested in the SS7 to VoIP media gateway and SMS pass-through features.
Likewise, the expansion of 4G data networks in the U.S. will open up new avenues for growth of VoIP services. This projection was based a study titled “VoIP in the US” carried out by Research and Markets.
