Moxa's EDR-810 Router Protects Against Cyber Attacks
By Michael Guta, TMCnet Contributing Writer
In the digital world, security has been an issue for a very long time, but as more and more technologies become connected in the Internet of Everything (IoE) the risks become that much greater. While industrial automation networks have improved productivity and overall efficiency with machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, the same tools used for this improvement can be used by malicious hackers to cause serious damage. Moxa, a provider of hardened networking, communication and computing solutions, has introduced the EDR-810 to address IT security issues in industrial applications.
In the past, these type of applications used industrial secure routers to protect the control network along with different switches to complete the communication network. Using different devices resulted with compatibility issues that often times slowed the delivery of critical data, used more power, and panel space. The EDR-810 is a single device with a Gigabit-performance secure router with built-in managed switch.
By integrating the security and networking functionality in a single unit, deployments in industrial applications will be more cost-effective and efficient because they will eliminate the need for additional power consumption and panel space.
Some of the specifications for the EDR-810 include:
The multiport router has managed Layer 2 switch functions designed for Ethernet security applications for monitoring networks with remote control. It also provides electronic security perimeter to protect sensitive assets in water stations, gas and oil, and factory automation. The EDR-810-2GSFP-VPN adds VPN to provide users a secure communication tunnel to access private network from public Internet.
