Cisco Announces Major Revision of CCIE Routing and Switching (R&S) Certification and Expert-Level Training
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Cisco (News - Alert) has made significant revamps to its CCIE Routing and Switching (R&S) Certification and expert-level training in order to counter the ever-growing challenges of enterprise networks, caused by the need to increase business productivity and cost benefits.
According to Cisco, the Certified Internetwork Expert (News - Alert) Routing and Switching (CCIE Routing and Switching) certifies the skills required of expert-level network engineers to plan, operate and troubleshoot complex, converged network infrastructure. In order to attain the certification, candidates have to pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam, and they are required to possess at least five years of job experience before attempting the exams.
The two-hour written exam tests a candidate’s networking concepts and equipment commands and only those who pass the written exam are qualified for the lab exam which will test their ability to configure actual equipment and troubleshoot the network in a timed-test situation. Acquiring the certification means that candidates will be in line for higher compensation and better professional opportunities.
For the certification process, the revised exams will include key technology areas including Dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 implementation, VPN technologies such as MPLS VPN and DMVPN, and scenario-based troubleshooting of network faults. The revised expert-level training from Cisco covers new certification standards and is offered by Cisco authorized learning partners. Candidates can register for the new v5.0 classes immediately.
“As the network evolves to support technological advances such as the Internet of Everything and employee mobility, there is a significant demand for expert-level engineers with proven skills to support forward-looking trends,” said Jeanne Beliveau Dunn, vice president and general manager at Learning [at] Cisco. “The enhanced CCIE Routing and Switching Exams, along with expert-level training for CCIE, provide sophisticated education and requisite certification to support tomorrow’s advanced networks.”
Dunn added, “These new standards reflect both the evolution of job skills that employers are looking for at the expert level and the evolution of related technologies that are relevant to today’s enterprise network environments. Network engineers who use the expert-level training will be equipped with the knowledge and validated skills required to accelerate expert-level competency in the field.”The new exams will be available on June 4, 2014 and students can register for the exams through Pearson VUE, the primary test delivery partner for Cisco. Students are advised to take training courses which are slated to begin in January via authorized Cisco Learning Partners.
